When you think of your desk or workplace in your home office, do you think more in terms of ”wow” or more like ”meh”? So if you think your desk deserves a cool makeover and that the window could use enhanced privacy for uninterrupted work, then here’s our creative upcycling DIY project for a more attractive home office!
You don’t need a magic wand or a large budget for this. We’ll show you how you can easily give your desk a stylish look with the d-c-fix® Marmi gray adhesive film in a trendy marble effect. Also, the d-c-fix® Tord white privacy film means the window near your desk is impervious to curious glances and looks from outside.
Are you ready for fresh good vibes for your personal home office? Let’s get stuck in…
You will need…
Determine the area of the work surface on your desk that is to be covered.
Then use a pencil to mark these dimensions on the backing paper of the Marmi decorative film before cutting the film to size with sufficient cutting allowance for the edges.
Now remove part of the backing paper and place the adhesive foil on an edge, press a hand-wide section of the foil to the tabletop, then smooth the adhesive foil with your doctor blade. Continue working step by step until the entire desk top is covered in this marble effect.
Cut the foil at the corners using scissors, pull the adhesive foil around the edges of the table, then smooth the edges firmly with the doctor blade. You can trim off any excess with the cutting knife.
Let’s now handle the privacy screen for your window: Measure the dimensions of the glass surface where you want more privacy and cut the d-c-fix® Tord white static window film to size. Make sure there is 2–3 mm clearance from the window seals.
Next, clean the window surface thoroughly. Then spray the glass surface generously with water / d-c-fix® mounting fluid until there are no more dry areas visible.
Now detach the backing paper from the opaque window film and attach it to the window – note the spacing from the seals.
When the film is in the correct position, press it on the window pane using the palm of your hand – and use the doctor blade to remove the water between the glass surface and the window film. The best method is to work your way from the inside out.
To finish off, rub your window dry with the cloth. Now your workplace window has a smart privacy screen!
When applying the film, it’s best not to remove too much of the backing paper at once. If you slowly remove it step by step, you can apply the adhesive film accurately and thoroughly using your doctor blade to avoid annoying air bubbles.
