Upcycling DIY: Trendy cans for your kitchen herbs

Project from Alex -

Fresh herbs in the kitchen are a great thing to have on hand: They taste super, are healthy and look good on the plate as well as on the window sill — provided they have a chic home in an attractive pot. And that’s exactly what we’re after with this DIY upcycling project! Using the chic d-c-fix® Sage adhesive foil and the d-c-fix® chalkboard foil, conventional cans are converted into great pots for your fresh kitchen herbs. For even more eye-catching details, write the names of the herbs on the labels made of chalkboard foil, add your favorite sayings or mantras, or decorate them with small drawings!

You will need…

  • One roll of d-c-fix® Sage
  • One roll of d-c-fix® Chalkboard foil
  • d-c-fix® application kit with doctor blade and cutter
  • Empty cans
  • Measuring tape

  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Potting soil
  • Seedlings of kitchen herbs

Let’s go

Step 1

Remove the paper labels from the cans and clean the cans thoroughly.

Step 2

Now determine the circumference of the cans and draw the dimensions with an addition of approx. 1 cm to the circumference on the backing paper of the Sage foil.

Step 3

Then cut out the rectangles.

Step 4

To apply the foil, remove the backing paper to a certain extent, carefully place the foil on the can and then adhere it all around. Finally, use the doctor blade to firmly apply the foil.

Step 5

As a decorative finish, cut out small rectangles or other shapes of your choice from the chalkboard foil and place them on your new herb cans.

Step 6

Finally, fill the cans with potting soil and plant your herb seedlings.

You’re done!
